What Happens in a Session

It is my pleasure to help many different kinds of clients. Since I have trained in many disciplines, I am not wedded to using a particular approach. Born with the temperament of a seeker and the soul of an empath, I combine very practical problem solving skills with the ability to coach my clients through the ups and downs of life.

When we work together in a session, there will be talking…listening…the opportunity for you to tell your story…and our mutual discovery of what makes you thrive. I draw from a large tool box that allows us to find exactly what works for you. Here are some of the techniques that can go into our designing your unique program:

Traditional Talk Therapy:

Talking about your concerns with another person who is nonjudgmental, safe, and there to be your guide and advocate can be tremendously healing. There is great value in telling our stories, identifying goals, and moving towards solutions.

Cognitive Therapy:

The way we think affects the way we feel. Often we have mental habits that are unrealistic and do not serve us well. Cognitive therapy helps us examine our thoughts and their impact on our feelings. It helps us transform negativity and to become happier and more effective.

Breathing and Relaxation Skills:

When our minds are agitated our bodies respond by becoming tense. We may feel anxious or depressed; we may have difficulty sleeping or making decisions. Some people develop physical stress symptoms such as headaches, stomachaches, and muscle pain. When we learn breathing and relaxation skills, we can calm both the mind and the body.

Imagery, Visualization, and Hypnosis:

When we can create a vision of our lives, we can make our distant dreams a reality. Also, our unconscious minds can be the source of great insight – through hypnosis we can access some of this eternal wisdom that is available, but frequently buried.

Meditation:

The goals of meditation are to still the mind and to find the deeper, wiser self within. A meditation practice can lead us to knowledge of our deepest purpose and an experience of profound peace.

EFT (Tapping):

Emotional Freedom Technique is a simple tapping therapy based on an understanding that we hold trauma as disturbed energy in the body. In EFT, we identify the issue, thought, feeling or belief that is creating an obstacle to happiness and clear it from the body by gentle work with associated acupuncture points.

EMDR:

Eye Movement De-sensitization and Re-education is a method of clearing and resolving trauma through the use of eye movements that bilaterally activate the brain, allowing for the emergence and resolution of issues more rapidly than in traditional talk therapy used alone.

If you are wondering how these approaches might work for you, please feel welcome to call me.
